Antoine de Saint-Exupéry （1900-1944） was born in Lyons， France。 He wrote The Little Prince in the United States during a two-year self-imposed exile from occupied France。 A year after the book’s publication in 1943， Saint-Exupéry disappeared over the Mediterranean while flying a reconnaissance mission for his French air squadron。 Best known throughout the world as the author and illustrator of The Little Prince， Saint-Exupéry wrote several other books that have also become classics of world literature。


Katherine Woods （1886-1968） produced the original English translation of The Little Prince in 1943。 It was later followed by several other English translations， but her classic translation is treasured by fans and is often considered to be the definitive English translation。 Her poetic translation perfectly captures the enchantment and charm of Saint-Exupéry’s storytelling。

The Little Prince is about a Pilot stranded in the desert who hallucinates something unforgettable， both to himself， and the reader。These couple weeks， I've been going through a bit of popular children's books that I should have gotten to but did not。 I was pretty disappointed because I wanted more profound texts and my reading experiences mostly buttressed the stereotypes that children's works cannot have a lot of depth because they greatly restricted in possible content- this book proved that The Little Prince is about a Pilot stranded in the desert who hallucinates something unforgettable， both to himself， and the reader。These couple weeks， I've been going through a bit of popular children's books that I should have gotten to but did not。 I was pretty disappointed because I wanted more profound texts and my reading experiences mostly buttressed the stereotypes that children's works cannot have a lot of depth because they greatly restricted in possible content- this book proved that wrong。 Although some content may be off-limits to the author， I don't think the quality of this book was effected negatively at all because of that。I find the themes， drawings， allusions， and whatnot very profound in this book。 Although they may seem childish at first， even with a bit of thought， one is moved by the subtle yet easy to spot themes and thoughts depicted in this book。 I especially loved the bits about children thinking about the adult's point of view， talks about what matters in one's life and how it matters， different perspectives of people in different places， etc。 Also， this book has a nice， "cute" vibe from it， but not in a way that seems to mock the reader's lack intelligence or wisdom。 I love this sentence too: "One sees clearly only with the heart"。 。。。more
